薩塞克斯大學 (University of Sussex) 為英國新世代大學的先驅之一，隸屬於六零年代所成立的七所知名平板玻璃大學 (Plate Glass University)，該名稱取自各校的特色玻璃設計建築風格，對照具備傳統維多利亞建築風格的紅磚大學，平板玻璃大學成為新世代的獨特設計代表。薩塞克斯大學於1961年獲得皇家許可授予大學資格，以豐富的創意思維、創新且多元的教學、以及卓越的跨領域研究而享有盛名。

布萊頓市 (Brighton) 為英格蘭南部的沿岸城市，隸屬東薩塞克斯郡 (East Sussex)，為英國最優美的海濱城巿之一。於中世紀時期因舊城區的發展、以及熱門的海水療養法，而成為知名的健康休憩之城；布萊頓市後期經歷戰爭與經濟困境的洗禮，同時伴隨道路與交通發展，城市轉變形態，衍伸成為英國南部著名的觀光城鎮，每年吸引逾八千萬名觀光遊客，為英國最受歡迎的海濱度假城市，同時譽為歡樂城鎮之最。布萊頓市擁有便捷的交通樞紐，搭乘火車約一小時即可抵達首都倫敦，往返倫敦希斯洛國際機場 (London Heathrow Airport) 亦十分便利，同時為海運的重要港口之一。
