| 布里斯托大學成立於1876年，1909年與
Merchant Ventures' Technical College 合併，由皇家教育委員會特許為正式大學。現今共有60個學系與15個研究中心，為一所歷史悠久的大學。
布里斯托大學在英國的研究評鑑報告中獲得很高的評定，也是全英國大學中，僅次於牛津、劍橋及倫敦大學學院，獲得最多世界級(World
Class-Grade 5)的大學。在2002年的泰晤士報中，排名為全英的第七名。
另外在早期的分科評定中，以英文、法律、機械工程、化學、地理、社會福利、醫藥..等學系被評定為特別優異。
近期，布里斯托大學在教育、解剖、電子工程、機械工程、電影、藝術、戲劇的排名也都在全英國大學中的第一、二名。而布里斯托大學也被認為是在理工科系非常有名的英國大學。
環境介紹
布里斯托大學座落於英國西南方、離倫敦約九十分鐘(搭火車)以商業、文化與教育聞名的布里斯托城。
布里斯托城為一個已建造一千多年的港口，因為航海事業的影響，布里斯多城現今也成為休閒與藝術的繁榮之地。
這座城市也以其工程師聞名，富有傳奇色彩的工程師 Isambard Kingdom
Brunel所建造的Clifton Suspension Bridge與SS Great Britain 、Temple
Meads Station等皆是布里斯托的標誌。
除此之外，布里斯托城還是西歐最大的太空工業中地，且是個高科技、金融、進出口和傳播業的重鎮。
學校設施
學習環境布裏斯托大學設有一個主圖書館和12個院系圖書館，該大學每年在圖書管理方面的預算大約250000英鎊，現有藏書1300000冊，期刊7000種。
校園布理斯托大學的大多建築建造在皇家福特花園周圍，校區比較集中，並與附近社區相連，建築設計亦與周圍社區融會和諧。
文學藝術系院區維多利亞時期的別墅式建築居多；自然科學系的院區建築以現代風格的設計為主。
社會科學系的院區多數建造於上世紀九十年代，新"住家"式樣的設計，給學生以在家裏學習般的親切而隨意的感受。
另外， Bristol的學生能享受到極佳的運動和休閒育樂設備。尤其是一間現代化的室內運動健身中心及學生聯會大樓裡的運動健身設備和一座游泳池。
